Review: Surrender by Lora Leigh

Surrender (Bound Hearts, #1)Surrender by Lora Leigh

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This story is a short novella, and with that format comes some challenges. An author must try to introduce the characters and conflicts and build up to a satisfying ending while answering all the reader’s “why?” questions. In this case, I felt the author could have done slightly better in answering some of the most pressing questions the book raises.

Why does Cole feel he must dominate Tess? What need does it fulfill? Why is anal sex play such a large role in their relationship? And most importantly, why does a man who frequently says “Mine” to Tess feel the need to share her with his best friend at the end?

Regardless of those unanswered questions, I still enjoyed the story and I already have the second book in the series slated to read. I’m expecting, after reading discussions about this series, that the “why’s” I listed above are answered in later books.

BLOODSONG
, Book Two Eden Bradley’s Midnight Playground series, is out today from Samhain Publishing! You can find it at MBaM, Amazon, and other retail outlets!

An ancient vampire, an ancient grief…a love that makes his blood sing…

Midnight Playground, Book 2

London, 2069

Aleron is ancient, powerful, immortal…a vampire who idles away his time playing at his favorite haunt, Midnight Playground. His favorite toys: beautiful young men. His game: BDSM, experiencing through the minds of his partners the sensations he can no longer quite feel himself.
The one thing he has vowed to avoid at all costs is love, especially for a woman. In a hundred years he has never been tempted to break that vow—until a lovely mortal woman enters his dungeon to watch him play. And his blood hums the ancient song of long-forgotten desire.
Raised in the Indian slums of London, exotic dancer Meeraj enters Midnight Playground a woman with nothing left to lose, numb to all but the most extreme forms of stimulation. As she watches Aleron’s blood play, she knows only his razor-sharp skills will satisfy. And she catches an odd mental glimpse of the grief that shadows his heart.
From their first touch, they are caught up in a whirlwind of exquisite agony that releases their emotions from the weight of the past. Exposing them to risks they’ve both fought to avoid. Love…and loss.

A Question…

After reading a blog rant about a certain author’s book cover, I thought I’d take a little informal poll.

Are you bothered by historical anachronisms/errors on romance novel covers?

Can you cite a book cover that has a historical anachronism/error?

Thanks in advance.

For those who are curious, THIS is the post that inspired my poll, which addresses some issues the reader (who is a historical seamstress) had with the gown on the cover of Kate Pearce’s Blood of the Rose.

I won’t share my opinion at this point because I’d like to welcome your comments. Please feel free to share your thoughts. I’d love to hear them!

What a Wonderful Surprise!

I have a new paperback book in print! Squeeeeeee!!!!

Everlasting Hunger

Raine Avery needs a job. Badly. When she hears about a primo position, she’s willing to overlook a few rumors about the company’s owner, Tryphon Zade. When she meets him, it’s clear at least two of those rumors are true. He’s a wet dream. And he’s a controlling, possessive, dominating jerk.

Tryphon and Bale Kincaid, Sons of the Twilight, are looking for more than a well-qualified office manager. The Hunger has them in its grip. They need a woman for the Blood Bond, and Raine is the perfect candidate. She makes Tryphon burn, her suppressed submissive nature calling to the Dom within him. But this Binding isn’t like any Bale and Tryphon have shared before. Their relationship is strained, and Raine fights Tryphon’s domination like a hellcat. But Tryphon is determined to prove his love for Bale…and tame their woman.

Torrid Hunger

Kaden, king of the Sons of the Twilight, possesses immense power, yet is imprisoned by his position and a crushing burden of guilt. Pierce is a dominant who can make subs weep with pleasure, but is constantly reaching for the one thing beyond his grasp—Kaden. Pulling them together is The Hunger, a yearly ritual that drives the Sons to seek out a mortal woman for the Blood Bond.

When a friend’s mysterious ailment brings Eden to their door, a deal is struck—seven days and nights of dark, sexual pleasure with Kaden and Pierce in exchange for the cure. But unbreakable threads of emotion tie them tighter together. And when it’s over, none of them will be the same.

Review #2: Lust’s Temptation

And another review of Lust’s Temptation! This one is by Amazon Nymph at Literary Nymphs. S/he gave it 4.5 nymphs.

The second book in the Masters of Sin series, Lust’s Temptation, was a pleasant surprise. Though Lust’s Temptation follows the concept of Lust divided into two men, the relationship between Troi, Oriel, and Amun was a pleasant surprise in the way it ended up because Amum is the submissive in the relationship between the three of them. Keep ice on hand as your read the various scenes between the men, both with Oriel, and the group scenes.

The book started a little slow for me but once the three actually got together, it picked up a lot. The emotions that the men invoke remind me that all of us can be just as vulnerable in our relationships. Ms. Taylor has created a surprising group of men that can turn all our heads and leave us wanting more. I am looking forward to the next book and can’t wait to see which sin will be next.

Review: Lust’s Temptation

I located this insightful review for Lust’s Temptation on the Seriously Reviewed blog.

Taylor has found a fascinating angle and I’m excited to read more in this series because of the potential.

Troi, Amun and Oriel are all great characters. Troi and Amun inner battle was intense, erotic and titillating but came with guilt and remorse. I loved the dichotomy of their struggle both to find the one that completes them sexually and screwing all the time. It was hot.

So far, so good. However, the blogger doesn’t have only good things to say about the story.

Several times the story seemed to reinvent itself. I thought I was reading a story that had romantic suspense elements, then I was reading a BDSM story. Somewhere in the middle in comes Oriel’s Dad and the story once again became something else. If these were the tools to bring about motivation and change in the characters, they didn’t work for me. All sections were entertaining, well written and erotic. But what one scene had to do with the next was often lost for me.

Interesting feedback. Indeed, the elements she mentions are meant to illustrate the character’s change, or need for change. It’ll be interesting to see if other reviewers feel the same way this one did.

My thanks to Seriously Reviewed for the review and the feedback.

Updates!

After learning a couple of my books have been recently added to Amazon’s Kindle store, I did a little research and learned my Amazon author profile was horribly out of date. My apologies!

Within the next few days, you should be able to find all my current and upcoming books on Amazon listed on my profile page: http://www.amazon.com/Tawny-Taylor/e/B001JS01Y2/ref=ntt_dp_epwbk_0. The updates include a Kindle and paperback edition of Wrath’s Embrace, several old titles, published by Ellora’s Cave and Changeling Press, and Lust’s Temptation, my most recent ebook release. In addition, my next Aphrodisia release, Darkest Fire is already listed for preorder. Woot! The official release date is a long time off yet (March 29, 2011).

Fresh Meat!

Amy Redwood is a new author in Ellora’s Cave’s stable. Sinful Intentions, a novel-length paranormal romance set in sunny New Zealand, is her first release. The cover’s working for me…and the blurb…

A jilted bride, a wolfishly sexy stranger, one sinful attraction under New Zealand’s sun.

When Katherine finds out her fiancé cheated on her, her heart is bruised. With a mission to get her life back on track, she takes the first flight to Auckland, New Zealand. And bumps heads with a sexy stranger. Their attraction is instant, powerful and undeniable. Taking a vacation from being a good girl, she succumbs to this sinful stranger who pushes the limits of her sexual needs as he explores every inch of her body. No strings of course.

Trent seduces her…in a bed, at the beach, in a truck, against the wall…until the wolf within him lifts its head and pays attention. Suddenly, after a tiny bite, it’s everything but no-strings.
