Deidre Knight’s running another writing contest on her blog. It seems she’s having some luck finding new talent this way.

Beginning Monday, March 7th, Deidre and Pamela are teaming up for Speed Date 2, a whirlwind competition to find the newest TKA client.* Just like old times, they are getting down in the trenches to scout out the cream of the crop. If you heard about or participated in our “She’s Just That Into You” competition last year, you know that Deidre ultimately selected two new clients, mega talents Leigh Evans and Erin Kelly, out of hundreds of participants. That event was so successful we’re doing it again.

This time around we’ve included a few tweaks, like an open hour-long entry period and selection of contestants by lottery.

Looks like you MUST have a completed manuscript to enter (since the finalists will be judged on them–and that judging will take place on or around March 17th)

Before I announce the three winners of the Some Like It Hot writing contest, I wanted to thank everyone who entered. Without you, of course, there wouldn’t be a contest. Thank you for being brave and submitting your story. For some of you, this might have been the first time you’ve entered a contest or submitted a story. That’s a huge step!

I’d also like to thank Grace for taking the time to read each and every entry. I don’t know how she managed to juggle reading each week’s entries so fast with her regular submissions. But she did a fabulous job.

Now, on to what you’ve all been waiting for–the winners.

Starting October 25th, 2010, I will be hosting a writing contest!
The final judge is an editor from Ellora’s Cave.

*You may submit one chapter–not to exceed 5000 words. Stories must be complete and unpublished.

*Each Monday, two stories will be selected by an Ellora’s Cave editor who is actively acquiring. At the end, six weekly winning authors will submit a partial (first three chapters, last chapter and synopsis) to the final judge for ranking.

The second place winner will receive…

A critique of the partial manuscript by EC editor Grace Bradley (first three chapters, last and synop).

The third place winner will receive…

Eligibility

This contest is open to both unpublished and published authors of erotic romance fiction. All entries shall be the author’s original work and not contracted for publication prior to the entry deadline. (Authors currently published with Ellora’s Cave are not eligible to enter.)

Entry Deadline
All entries must be received between 12:00 am October 25th and 11:59pm November 12th (Eastern U.S. Timezone).

Entry Details
Entries must be between 7,000 and 125,000 words long (actual/computer wordcount). All entries will be accepted in electronic (e-mail) submissions only. If you have problems sending electronically, please email the coordinator (tawny@tawnytaylor.com).

Judging

First Round: The first round will be judged by Grace Bradley

The scores/scoresheets will NOT be returned to entrants. Entries will be judged on the following: plot, pacing, characterization, genre appropriateness, narration, dialogue, writing mechanics and originality.

Weekly winners will advance to the final round.

Final Round:

The finalists will be asked to send the first three chapters, last chapter and synopsis to the coordinator by 11:59 pm November 19th, 2010 for final judging.

The winner of the grand prize will be announced on November 29th, 2010.

Notification

The first round finalists will be announced weekly on Tawny’s blog (www.tawnytaylor.net) and facebook page, the last one on November 15th, 2010.

Additional Prizes:

One entry will be selected each week by random drawing to received a detailed critique by an author published with Ellora’s Cave. The weekly random drawing winner will also by announced on Tawny’s website and blog.

Maryland Romance Writers is proud to announce the 2010 “Reveal Your Inner Vixen” Contest for writers of romantic fiction. Send us your most sizzling scene showcasing sensual tension between your hero and heroine. Your scene can be a flirtation, a kiss, or a hot and heavy love scene, just as long as the reader can feel that tension!

WHY SHOULD I ENTER THIS CONTEST?

FEEDBACK: Entrants receive constructive feedback from first-round judges, many of them published authors. Finalists receive a brief critique by the final round judge.

EXPOSURE: Finalists in each category will be judged by editors publishing in that subgenre. First place winners and category finalists will be listed in advertising and announcements in the RWA® Romance Writers Report.

PRIZES: First place category winners receive a $50 cash prize and a gold Vixen pin!

OPPORTUNITY: Last year, ONE THIRD of our contest finalists were asked to submit partial or full manuscripts. One Young Adult finalist has already sold her manuscript!
