Lust’s Temptation Cover

One thing I appreciate, as both a reader and writer, is when a publisher’s art department creates the covers of books in series with some kind of cohesive theme (color/font/subject) in mind. And so, I was pleased when I saw the cover for Lust’s Temptation for the first time.

However, in this case, looking at the cover, I also had a deja vu moment. I wonder, is it me?

Wrath’s Embrace

And now, Lust’s Temptation

Clearly, the photographs used in each are different. And both are scorching. But the overall impression is very much the same. Honestly, if I saw the second cover on a website, surrounded by other covers, I might mistake it for the earlier cover. Would you?

Your thoughts? Can covers be too similar? Or would the similarity make you take a second look?

UPDATE: How I LOVE Ellora’s Cave’s art department! I voiced my concern and minutes later, I had a revised cover. Check out the new and improved cover for Lust’s Temptation!
