For those who aren’t on a Borders email mailing list, Borders just opened their new ebook store and they’re offering a free ebook to those who register and open a new account.

Among the apps they are offering: iPhone/iPod Touch, PC/mac, Android and Blackberry. You can download them HERE. For those with active Borders Rewards accounts, at this point, the ebook site/account does not interact with your Rewards account and purchases of ebooks do not earn you points. At least, that’s what was told to me today when I inquired at the store.

At this point, I have set up an account and downloaded the PC app. I haven’t made a purchase. Nor have I compared prices of the books I prefer to read, to see how they run versus Amazon and Barnes and Noble. I do, however, like the option of having yet another vendor for ebooks.
