Jane Austen: Wild and Wanton?
A writer friend of mine, Michelle Pillow just announced a new project she’s been contracted to write. And it is intriguing! Check out Pride and Prejudice, The Wild and Wanton Edition, now available for preorder on Amazon. I find it very interesting to see there are two authors listed, Pillow and Austen. I’m getting a sense that some parts of the book will be left unchanged while others will be expanded. Hmmm… I will be loading it on my Nook when it releases.
I also see a Wild and Wanton Edition of Wuthering Heights is also in the works, written by Emily Bronte and Beth Williamson.
From what information I can find, the nooks aren’t exactly complete rewrites, more like revisions or expansions on the original works. It’s my understanding the voices of the revised sections will remain true to the original authors’ voices. There will be the addition of no zombies or vampires or other paranormal creatures. The purpose is to expand upon secondary plots, characters and relationships that were left unexplored in the original works.
What do you think about this series? Are they capitalizing on a trend in a fresh and creative way? Or are they turning a classic into something less than what it was?
